LayeredTech

I only have one server with layerdtech and cant really give a proper review I guess

Sales - n/a

I did not attempt to get any sales as I know they are a good provider and also know their network pretty well and quite a bit about them

Hardware/Support - 7/10

This is just a hardware score as I have not submitted any support requests yet. Their hardware is good but they dont offer some of the most uptodate hardware available.

Network - 10/10

Their network is great, and very reliable. Never had a problem and I do get great pings from the UK and some of the best transfer speeds.

Summary

I still reserve judgement on them but so far everything seems good

About a month ago I asked about using an outside server expert with a managed server. My dedicated server is hosted with Hostgator and found that their level 3 support has been good, but their lower level of support was been good and bad depending on the tech. Also their response time varied greatly and while we could usually get our specific problems addressed it was obvious we were dealing with a big company.

We were looking for a higher level of support that we could ask advice from and help us find nagging problems, etc.

Several people suggested seeksadmin.com so I gave them a try. So far I have only dealt with Tris but he has been outstanding. He has helped us troubleshoot and fix several nagging problems that were costing us time, money and frustrations. He has gone the extra mile for us several times.

For the first time in the 4-5 years we have had dedicated servers, I feel like we have a server expert on our team we can go to for help and advice.

Although I can’t recommend them long term yet, after a month I can report they have done a great job for us at an extremely reasonable price.

I recently bought my first dedicated server. And I had no earlier experience with any kind of server management. I’ve only used shared hosting accounts, so everything’s been taken care of by my hosts. But my site has grown and it’s too big for shared hosting so I had to get a dedicated server.

About a week after I bought the server, I still had problems with it and I couldn’t get everything to work properly so I couldn’t get my sites back up. Therefor I made a thread on WHT explaining my situation. I don’t have a big budget so I pointed that out as well. I got a few replies from people that were interested and I basically chose Tris from Seeksadmin because he said he had some years experience with server administration. And it turned out to be the right choice.

The same day as I made the thread on WHT, I contacted Tris on MSN and I gave him some information so he could set up a support account for me on Seeksadmin.com. He also told me that I won’t pay until the job is completely done. And that’s a really good thing. Than you’ll know for sure that you’re not being ripped off. So he set up my account right away and then I could login there and give him all my server information.

After I submitted my server information, it didn’t take long before he started working on my server. And I think the server set up and security configurations were done on the same day that I requested the help. The job was done real quick.

The server was set up and I could start upping my sites again. As one of my sites is a message board, I had to import a database on 900MB. And that’s something I know nothing about that. I’ve always left that kind of stuff for my host to do. So I asked if Tris could help me with that and he did. There were some problems at first because the MySQL software on my new box was a different version to the
MySQL on my old hosting account. So because of that they couldn’t import the database. But they kindly helped me upgrade the MySQL software and after that they started uploading the database for me.

Everything was done real quick and everything’s working great with the server now. Talking to the guys from Seeksadmin on MSN is basically like talking to your friends. They are very friendly, helpfull, and easy to talk to.

I payed $50 to get my server set up. And for that price I got a server set up and a security package worth $150. They secured my server, upgraded the MySQL, imported a big database, spent a lot of time helping me with server related things, and I’ve been able to ask a lot of questions. They have helped me a lot and I definitely know who I’ll go to if I need any more help with my box.

A few days ago I had reason to believe the security on one of my servers may have been comprised, I got very uncomfortable about this and decided to get someone who was a server security expert to help me out. The first two names that came to mind were Steve (rack911) and Tris (seeksadmin) since Ive seen both their names come up quite a few times on forums like this. I decided to go with Tris since his prices were lower than the other guy even though he seemed to have just as good a reputation.

I sent him an email and in exactly 4 minutes he responded. Within another few minutes we were chatting on MSN. He agreed to fully secure the server as best he could and got started right away. His partner Matt picked up where he left off and within an hour their basic ’security kit’ was installed. They stayed with me on MSN the entire time and kept me abreast of what they were doing step by step. I was also sent an email with the synopsis of our online conversation as well as a complete list of all the tasked they had carried out. They were courteous, friendly, quite professional and very knowledgeable.

They also provided a security audit at no additional cost and were prepared to fix any damaged caused by any hacks that may have been carried out, I understand there is usually a charge for this but I guess they realized I was a little distressed over the situation and were genuinely interested in helping me. I would definitely use these guys again.

Keep it up guys!

seeksadmin experience - Two thumbs up

Hi,

I would like to share my experience with seeksadmin.com for everyones’ benefit.

here it goes..

I was having problems with one of my servers, I am not NOOB admin but I was helpless and desperate that I wanted this problem solved, I pay no problem.

A week ago, I started having high server load due to high CPU usage by MySQL database. I did all that is possible to tune the servers but still no use, I have upgraded the kernel. but still its really not normal and not logical at all.

the server have few sites and one major site that is running vbulletin forums.

I emailed few companies but non wanted to do it, others where very very expensive. they will charge me per hour even if the problem was not solved. I was not ready for something like this. because I know that this problem will take some time.

seeksadmins came to the rescue.. very nice and friendly welcome, in no time we where together on MSN. I read about them from a post here in WHT

Tris and Matt I had a chance to work with them both.

they quoted me a very low price that I did not believe at the begining. they will also not make you pay unless your problem is solved which was what I wanted.

Gave them access to the server and they started looking into the issue immediatly.

the load was 50+ they managed to bring it down to 5+ after that the server was at least some how accessible.

They did many tweaks to MySQL and Apache. they also installed eAccelerator.

still the load goes up sometimes to 10+ and again down +5

unfortuanly, the problem remains Tris was constantly monitoring the server that night for more that 4 hours.

after that his shift ended and Matt came, did his magic brought the server load down a little more but the problem was not solved, something was there.

MySQL server processes where using alot of CPU and not much info from “mysqladmin processlist” not many apache process too.

after two days, I asked them nicely if there is anything else they can do, they said we did all what we can. and gave me the expert advise.

they told me, I should have a dedicated MySQL server that will release the load from this server, they also mentioned that the problem is most likely to be from misconfigure PHP script.

after that it came to my mind that a week ago I upgraded vb to 3.6. and I know from experience that vb hacks creating lots of problems many times.

so I desided to disable Plugins/hooks of that vb forum.

That was it!!! the load went down to 0.15!!!!

yes it was only a bad incompatible hack that was installed on the new version.

finally,
I would definitly use these guys for any further unresolved issues I will have. and I strongly recommend them to any one. they are very honest and straight to the point.

PS: they did not take money from me because the problem was not fixed even though I offered to pay them for their time and efforts. they deserve it. instead they asked me to post my experience and this is the least I can do for them.

thanks seeksadmins and all.

Hello

I would like to give a review on Seeksadmin.com. Last week I subscribed for the server administration package. I immediatelly submitted a ticket to secure my server, they finished it successfully in around 1-2 hours after submitting the ticket. They also emailed me how to update all the programs they installed (like ClamAV etc). I also had not much RAM left and Seeksadmin.com advised to reboot the system and they did. However, it never came back online again. After I contacted the data center to make them aware of the problem they manually rebooted the system, however there were still some problems on the server (fsck fail). After the system was manually rebooted I again submitted a ticket to solve this problem. In around 1 hour after I submitted the ticket they also solved this problem and the server rebooted successfully.
My opinion about Seeksadmin.com therefore is that they are absolute professionals in managing and securing your server and I would suggest them to all who need a server management company. Great value for your money!

Before I forget: Their support is really friendly and they always want to help you out if there is a problem. As they state on their website ‘Most importantly, friendly staff!’. It’s true!

Hi everyone,
We are a hosting company in Malaysia. In order to make sure someone is available to look after our server 24×7, I’ve asked the guys at Seeksadmin to help us. I chose them because Tris is my friend since some time, and I have the confidence in him and since he is in UK, I find the time zone difference just nice to cover our night time.

The US Linux server I was using in the past few years was a fully managed server. I don’t have to worry anything about server management as the server was perfectly managed with excellent uptime. However, I needed a better connectivity for our customers in Malaysia to connect to our server, thus we had to move to another network provider.

We migrated our US Linux server officially on September and of course, Seeksadmin officially helped us to look after our server end of September. I’ve used cPanel/WHM account migration before, and I remember nothing but lots of headache especially in transferring large accounts from server to server. Thus, the first job they did for me was to ensure a smooth server migration. As expected, the transfer wasn’t smooth with cPanel/WHM account transfer but Tris personally helped me to make sure everything is perfectly fine by doing some manual transfer. I am grateful that he has scheduled and performed a smooth transfer for me at last

The next thing of course was securing our new server. Matt helped me to perform this task. This is a server backend task that I can’t comment much. But after the work, I did ask my colleague to check what they have done, everything looks fine. At least you can expect them to really do the work, and they are definitely not those who bill you for doing nothing, since you “can’t see” the result or worse to happen, help you to screw your server up if the sysadmins are not experienced enough.

Another thing that they helped me was optimising my server. I am pleased by the result as I can see a significant drop in server load after the work. Sebastian was the admin that was assigned to handle this task, and he did it professionally.

My only bad experience with Seeksadmin was with the junior admin. Two weeks ago my server’s exim was having some issues. It happened after the nightly cPanel automatic upgrade. Tris wasn’t online in MSN when I wanted him to solve the problem, so I tried submitting a ticket as I was in a rush. My colleague was busy as well. I was attended by a junior admin from Seeksadmin who asked me lots of questions to understand the problem (the ticket has 25 emails sent between us from start till end), that I finally got fed up and asked my colleague to solve the problem. That’s the only bad experience I have with them.

So far I’m really satisfied by Tris, Matt and Sebastian’s performance. Tris is always available in MSN on weekdays but not the weekends lately. Probably he has to accompany his family, I guess.

In conclusion, I will recommend Seeksadmin to anyone who needs a remote admin. One good thing about them is, although they do not have as many sysadmins as other companies out there, but you can expect their senior admins to be highly qualified. The best is of course if you’re lucky enough to have Tris or Matt to help you handle the work.

Good luck to you!

Hi,

I found out about seeksadmin.com from WHT. As I needed somewhat custom setup / installation, I contacted them.

They responded swiftly and secured my server just the way I asked them. Even too much, but within no time, all wishes were met.

Therefore, I would recommend them to anyone who has unmanaged server / colo and needs to secure it. They also helped me out with some basic terms and ideas how to keep my server on the safe side.

Cheers,
Aleks

I’d read numerous comments about SeeksAdmin and thought I would give them a go as my new dedicated server could do with optimizing and I had a few niggles with my vbulletin and phpbb forums.

I duly sent a presale email to Tris asking if they’d be able to help me with forum issues as well as optimization. Within a couple minutes (literally) I received a positive response and duly made payment and submitted my first ticket soon thereafter. The ticket was responded to and completed within around 5 minutes which is unbelievable considering the problem was of optimizing the server. My load and swap duly dropped so I knew they must have done something right.

I have since sent around 10 support tickets over the past few days and they are always answered within 2-4 mintues by a human rather than automated system.

The layout of the members area is absolutely brilliant and a breeze to work with. Billing as well as support tickets are handled from the same window and they list all tickets (opened and closed) so you have a complete rundown of what has been done and when. The layout is simply superb.

As to working with SeeksAdmin; they are professional, courteous, informative and quick to respond. Whenever they post responses, they always address me by first name and end their messages with their name and title which is very professional and I like the way they respond to me as a person and not just a number.

I originally signed up for one month as my server is managed but I was after some good optimization but I am seriously considering spending $25 per month as a second form of management. They are that good.

If you need management (proactive or not), SeeksAdmin are definitely the team you should go with. The cost of their services is absolutely amazing.

I have been using SeeksAdmin for a little over a month now. I chose them because I was having issues with my managed server company taking an extremely long time to resolve issues (some up to 7 days with no communication). The first issue I had with them was Frontpage Extensions not working. Tris and his team had this situation resolved in 17 hours as compared to 7 days and running (and Tris apologized for taking 17 hours to get this resolved, I was ecstatic getting this fixed in 17 hours as I was expecting longer!!). They normally reply to my tickets within 20 minutes or less and situations are usually resolved in an hour or two (for normal status tickets). I have had one high status ticket which they responded to within minutes and the situation was resolved in approximately an hour. John is the staff member who is usually assigned to my tickets and he does an absolutely fabulous job!

I have used a couple management companies and these guys are definitely the best!

I will post another review at 3 months.
